Action Plan 2011

October 2010 – October 2011

The strategy of NordAN 2011

NordAN´s main role is to give the platform to the NGO`s in the Nordic and Baltic countries in alcohol and drug policy questions. Networking and collaboration between Nordic and Baltic countries will continue also in 2011. In NordAN´s board there are members both from Nordic (Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Faroe islands, Finland) and Baltic countries (Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia).

In alcohol and drug field there are  numerous NGO´s . Some of them are too small to do advocacy in the policy field alone. Combining the knowledge and experiences really has policy impact. NordAN works in close contact with different public bodies at the Nordic, Baltic and European level (see appendix 1 : NordAN web site www.nordan.org. / links).

NordAN´s  aims and objectives is to raise the Nordic viewpoints and voice in all these arenas it has collaboration at the Nordic, Baltic and European level. It is not so easy to differentiate these levels from each other: there are many policy questions linked more and more at the EU- and even global (WTO) level. The actual issue is in 2011 to contribute to the implementation of WHO new global strategy.

Networking with different cultures and environments raises the awareness of alcohol and drug questions and gives the possibility to learn from each other. Through NordAN it is also possible to compare the different solutions and prevention policies and their impact to alcohol and drug problems. NordAN has also important role to disseminate latest international monitoring and research results and experiences from best practices in their member countries.

One of NordAN´s important advocacy role is to give and get information from parliament and government members. They use their voice in the political arenas and they need enough information from regional and local levels and the actors there.
In the next year NordAN is going to enforce this kind of advocacy (Nordic Council, Baltic Assembly, European parliament / MEPs, national governments and parliaments).

NordAN has started a collaboration also with West-Russian areas in 2009 (Northern dimension). The networking has happened by the collaboration of  Sihlwa (just under reorganization). Northern dimension has been one of the main themes in 2010 Copenhagen conference and continues in 2011 (if  NordAN will get enough funding).

The resources of NordAN 2011

In 2011 the board tries to balance the economy and to find new funding possibilities and co-working with international projects or bodies. In 2011 NordAN is obliged to focus only on the most important activities. The new website of NordAN (www.nordan.org) helps in changing, gathering and disseminating information and networking. The voluntary member-fee policy must be evaluated by the board during next year. Also networking with other actors and finding synergy is important

The member organisations and their service

The member organisations are the core of NordAN. Their position is important for the whole Nordic policy. Therefore it is important to give the role and voice of the member organisations also in NordAN´s main arena: the Conference. The NordAN Conference also provides in the future the arenas for the member organisations.
The website has been renewed in 2010 and it is a good tool to disseminate information and to work more together. The website still needs a lot of development. It must be developed more to the interactive form. The site is a good platform to the policy news and best practices (the board members and also the member organisations can in the future pick up the most interesting news at the NordAN  pages). It is also possible to develop different kind of extranets or Facebook links.

The NordAN annual conference 2011

The next hosting country for  the year 2011 is Lithuania.
