Northern Drug Policy Network
2009 NordAN received support from the Nordic Council of Ministers´NGO program for a pilot-project Northern Drug Policy Network – which enabled us to establish a NordAN Drug Policy Committee to produce a proposal for a NordAN Drug Policy Platform to be adopted at the assembly of representatives in Helsinki in October 2009.

The grant from NCM also meant that NordAN was able to participate and contribute to a Drug Conference in St. Petersburg 25th of June 2009 organised by the Baltic NGO Network Against Drugs – and in extension to conduct a consultative process leading to the agreement of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two networks.

The meetings in St. Petersburg brought NordAN into closer connections to the Baltic and Russian NGOs in the drug field and caused an invitation to partner up with a project building “Social partnership Against Drug Addiction – preventing HIV/AIDS in North West Russia” also sponsored by Nordic Council of Ministers and initiated by the NCM Local Office and the Government in Arkhangelsk Region. The Russian NGO Rassvet was the coordinating unit of the project, and became our main contact. The Secretary General participated and contributed in the project kick-off-seminar in Arkhangelsk 5th -7th of October where some ideas for further corporation was discussed.

Future
On the basis on the 2009 UN Declaration and Plan of action, the emerging of a NordAN platform, the good contacts and corporation with St. Petersburg situated BNAD and the contacts with the Arkhangelsk situated project NordAN formulated and send in an new innovative application for a project for building sustainable NGO network and connections between NGO focal points in the entire Northern Dimension Area that some call the Baltic Sea Region.
We entitled the project Northern Dimension Drug Dialogue and the project has the NordAN 10th Anniversary Conference on Public Health and Social Wellbeing in the region in Copenhagen next year as its centrepiece.

Financed by Stiftelsen Ansvar För Framtiden (SAFF)
NordAN has been engaged in a strategic development project formulated 2006 alongside the first application to the foundation Stiftelsen Ansvar För Framtiden (SAFF) who has been the main sponsor of the project.
The progress of the project was formulated as part of the annual plan of actions and was thus reported to the annual assembly of representatives.
