Illegal cultivation and trade of marijuana increases in LatviaDecember 10, 2015
Based on information from Latvian authorities, marijuana remains the most frequently confiscated type of drug in the country, closely followed by methamphetamine. In addition, the number of illegal cultivation for personal use and illegal trade has been on a rise lately, as mentioned in Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma’s National Security report to the Saeima, Baltic New Network reports.
New psychoactive substances are the third in terms of the number of confiscations, which points to a provisional stabilization of the situation and the positive effect legal measures have had on combating this form of drugs, as stated in the report.
The report also mentions that the volume of illegal drugs confiscated by authorities this year demonstrates stable growth of circulation of narcotic and psychotropic substances.
