YLE News (Finland) - More employees face drug tests at work
Drug testing in the workplace is becoming more widespread. The National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) estimates that the number of drug tests carried out by employers in Finland has risen to over 100,000 per year.

Statistics Iceland (Iceland) – Alcohol prices rose in January
The CPI based on prices in January is 387.1 points (May 1988=100), 0.28% higher than in the previous month. The CPI less housing cost is 365.9 points, 0.05% higher than in December. Alcohol and tobacco prices rose by 2.8% (0.10%).
Informa Healthcare (Sweden) - A prospective study of mortality up to eight years after starting treatment for alcohol and drug problems in Stockholm County: 2000–2008
Research indicates an association between substance use and premature death and that misuse of illicit drugs is more closely linked to mortality than alcohol misuse. Given that these studies often are based on homogeneous treatment populations, we sought to analyse long-term mortality among both alcohol and drug misusers in a representative treatment system sample by examining: (1) excess death ratios (SMR, standardised mortality ratio) in comparison with the general population and (2) risk factors for mortality within the sample.

The Kettil Bruun Society for Social and Epidemiological Research on Alcohol (KBS) is an independent organization open for scientists engaged in research on the social aspects of alcohol use and alcohol problems. The aim of the society is to promote social and epidemiological research on alcohol and foster a comparative understanding of alcohol use and alcohol problems through international cooperation.
Norden - Nordic Alcohol and Drug Researcher’s Assembly
The traditional biannual Nordic Alcohol and Drug Researcher’s Assembly
will be held in Copenhagen, Denmark on August 27th – 29th 2012 at the DGI-byen
conference centre. The assembly will also cooperate with the alcohol and drug
policy administration network (Rusmedelkonferens) during a joint conference day
on the 29th of August.
