Drugs and weapons being sold on Instagram

An investigation released by Swedish Radio News has revealed that weapons and illegal drugs, including cocaine, are being sold through the social media site Instagram, which is used by many Swedish teenagers to share images, and police have not been able to keep up with these developments.

One teen told Swedish Radio News that clothes, shoes and marijuana are being sold through the site. “Everyone knows about it,” she said.

During their five-month-long investigation, Swedish Radio News followed approximately 250 private Instagram accounts and observed a large number of weapons and drugs being sold, but also stolen mopeds, brand-name clothes, shoes and jewelry. There were even tools sold to disable alarms on clothes and other items in stores. Cocaine, ecstasy, hash and marijuana were some of the types of drugs being sold.
