EC moves to determine alcoholic products ingredients

The European Commission has taken an initiative to determine whether ingredients in alcoholic beverages need to be listed in the label, writes Finland Times.

Anne Haikonen, legislative affair counsellor at the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, said the most likely alternative would be for the commission to inquire first whether the products would be labelled as alcoholic or alcoholic soft drink beverages.

Sources said requirements on labelling from the food regulation remain pending since 2011.

The plan was not implemented as an understanding was not reached by wine producing countries on the additional information of ingredients to be included on the labels.

The position of Finland in this regard is that alcohol ingredients and nutritional value of the product should be listed.
