Finland: Substance abuse cases on rise among doctorsJanuary 08, 2015
Last year 24 doctors and 57 nurses had their licenses revoked for substance abuse, according to figures obtained by the Keskisuomalainen daily. The paper claims the board in charge of disciplinary proceedings is seeing more drug and alcohol-related cases in recent years, YLE Uutiset report.
The Finnish Supervisory Authority for Health and Welfare, Valvira, suspects that more doctors and nurses are becoming dependent on alcohol or narcotics, according to a report in the Central Finland daily Keskisuomalainen (KSML).
In all Valvira’s oversight committee handled 228 cases last year, with penalties ranging from written warnings to license revocations.
