Latvian Presidency of the EU names future of alcohol policy as one of its priorities

The Latvian Presidency of the Council will take place during the first half of 2015. Latvia will take over the Presidency from Italy and pass it to Luxembourg.

Latvian Presidency names public health among its main priorities, one of which is continuing discussion on healthy lifestyles. First subpriority is mentioned facilitating the “the discussions on the future of the alcohol policy/-ies in the EU”.

The future of European Alcohol Strategy is seen as one of the first tasks also for the new Health Commissioner, former Lithuanian health minister Vytenis Andriukaitis.
