Lithuania’s and Estonia’s mortality rate due to drug overdoses is much higher than in EU

Lithuania’s mortality rate due to drug overdoses is more than twice as high as the EU average, but the situation in Estonia is even worse, informs LETA/BNS.

Some 87 drug-induced deaths were reported in Lithuania in 2014, or 44.4 cases per million population, compared with the EU average of 19.2 cases, the Lisbon-based European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) said in a report on Tuesday.

The situation in Latvia is better, with 10.6 cases per million. However, Estonia registered the highest mortality rate in the EU, with 98 overdose deaths, or 113.2 cases per million.
