Nordic health ministers: Stepping up work on public health

The Nordic health ministers agree on the need to step up work on public health and are issuing a declaration in the light of the proposals contained in the report “The Future Nordic Co-operation on Health”. The objective is equal health for all.

The Nordic Council of Ministers for Health and Social Affairs (MR-S) acknowledges the considerable health inequalities that exist in the Nordic Region – despite high global rankings – and that these inequalities need to be eradicated.

The ministers also want health and well-being to be considered from a gender-equality perspective.

The ministers have also agreed to prioritise sharing information and experiences and joint development projects for cross-border preventative measures and health promoting activities. In particular, the work will prioritise addressing health inequalities, mental health and preventing the harmful use of alcohol, drugs and tobacco.
