Norway: Parents fear grandparents alcohol use

Nearly one in ten parents refrained from sending their children to spend the night with their grandparents because they were afraid of the grandparents’ alcohol consumption, says a new study.

Kari Randen, general manager of the campaign organization AV-OG-TIIL, tells VG that they initiated the investigation after several calls from parents seeking advice on how they could deal with to grandparental alcohol use.
“I think these are very high numbers. I find it surprising and sad,” she says.
Randen believes the problem is becoming more and more common and may be caused by today’s grandparents being different from previous generations.
