Smoking among Icelandic teenagers has fallen to an all time low

Smoking among grammar school students in Iceland has fallen to an all-time low according to a new study published this week, Iceland Magazine reports.

Ársæll Már Anarsson, professor at the University of Akureyri, lead the study. In an interview with Fréttablaðið newspaper he says the change happened rapidly, only twenty years ago around 25 % of 15-year-olds smoked.

“With this rate, one can hope that this age group will be completely smoke-free.” Ársæll adds: “The results show us that anti-smoking campaigns seem to work.”
