Sweden: Retired doctors prescribe more drugs

Retired doctors prescribe more psychoactive drugs than their younger colleagues, daily Dagens Nyheter reports.

According to the newspaper, this happens in 15 out of Sweden’s 21 regions. However, the number of retired doctors who still work in their private clinics is small. Only 0.5 percent of all prescriptions come from retired physicians.

The investigative report also shows that many addicts are getting psychoactive drugs through handwritten prescriptions, which allows them to go unnoticed in the system.
