Union threatens to block Norway’s only source of alcohol with strike

The Norwegian union Handel og Kontor is taking Norway’s national supply of alcohol hostage in ongoing negotiations concerning pension plans.

Employees of the Norwegian state-owned alcohol monopoly, Vinmonopolet, will go on strike unless the union’s demands are met, effectively forcing Norway into sobriety.

“Not one pol [liquor store] will be open. We’re currently planning how we’re going to dry up Norway in the best way possible,” says Christopher Beckham, representing HK in the negotiations.
